Off-Road Vehicle Education and Enforcement Campaign

Share:

The Saint John Police and our community have seen an increase in off-road vehicle activity on our streets. Off-road vehicles include all-terrain vehicles and dirt bikes which can pose safety hazards on our streets when operated outside the laws of New Brunswick.

As a result, the Saint John Police, Justice and Public Safety and our community will be conducting an Off-Road Vehicle Education and Enforcement Campaign during the month of September 2025.

The focus of the campaign will be to promote the safe operation of off-road vehicles through education and enforcement. This will include strict zero tolerance enforcement and a public meeting on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, beginning at 7:00 pm at Champlain Heights School, hosted by the Champlain Heights Association. Community members are invited to attend to discuss ongoing issues. Members of the Saint John Police will be in attendance to answer questions and provide insight into the off-road vehicle campaign.

During the campaign, officers of the Saint John Police and Justice and Public Safety will engage with all-terrain vehicle riders within the community to promote the importance of safe riding habits, proper clothing, protective gear, and mechanically safe vehicles.

According to Statistics Canada, from 2013-2019:

  • Alcohol/drug use was reported in 51% of all-terrain vehicle driver fatalities
  • Road conditions, such as dangerous surface, a slope or a curve, were reported in 33% of all-terrain vehicle fatalities
  • Not wearing a helmet/not safely wearing a helmet was reported in 33% of all-terrain vehicle fatalities
